Ubuntu dock: configuring icon preview behaviour

sa flag
QF0

This has been bugging me for months. Ubuntu 22.04, default install and behaviour.

Assume that I have 3 instances of an application running (a browser, for example). The icon in the dock shows 3 dots; so far, so good.

In principle, I can single-click on the icon, and it will show me a preview of all three browser windows, so that I can select the one I want to view. This is great, but it only works if at least one of the windows is already visible.

The problem comes when all 3 instances are already minimised. In this case, if I single-click on the icon, Gnome doesn't show a preview, but instead pops up one of the browser windows (which is, of course, the wrong one). I then have to click the icon again to find the right window, select it, and then minimise the wrong one.

Is there some way I can configure the dock to fix this behaviour?

I sit in a Tesla and translated this thread with Ai:

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
