My Edirol UA101 soundcard sounds suddenly like all the sound would be passing through a ring modulator. I have been using this card couple of months ago and it was fine. This happens both in my desktop running the latest Ubuntu Studio. However it does not happen in another laptop running latest Xubuntu or if I connect other soundcards (I tried two different ones and both are fine).
This is the kernel in my desktop and my system
$ uname -a
Linux r2d2-desktop 5.15.0-58-lowlatency #64-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT Fri Jan 6 03:36:28 UTC 2023 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
$ lsb_release -a

Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS
Release: 22.04
Codename: jammy
I tried starting the system with the generic kernel and that did not solve the problem. I reset the soundcard to factory settings, updated the system and restarted several times, changed the USB cable, tried different setting with the physical knob (that is present in the sound card model) to adjust the sample rate. I also tried running the card with jack but it kept doing the same ring modulator effect. No Xruns, no start errors, all the ports in the sound card are listed properly in qjackctl.

I wonder if it might be some bug with ALSA. any ideas?
many thanks
