After upgrading to 22.04LTS, GUI no longer works on chrome, totem.Nomacs "unable to create a GL context"

mx flag

I was running 20.04LTS - I had started getting dependency errors, but upgrade to 22.04 which appeared to load (there were 2 or 3 warnings) did not work.

When I start various apps (chrome, VLC, nomacs) the opened window is black. Gradually more screen corruption occurs.

Nomacs says "unable to create a GL context"

Thunderbird, Libreoffice; Text editor ; File manager; scanner - all work fine.

The same thing happened when I tried with Totem package.

so I guess /usr/src/libdvd-pkg/libdvdcss_1.4.3.orig.tar.bz2

needs to be reloaded?

sudo dpkg-reconfigure libdvd-pkg ( following the successful fix for another user with the same broken package error)

See edits. It does seem that anything that uses imagemagick is non-working... So is it possible to get around this Ubuntu Pro + esm-apps requirement. Not sure why these are security updates...

apt looks fine to me now. Why do you say imagemagick is not working? If it's just the [Ubuntu Pro](https://askubuntu.com/q/1452497) notification you can safely ignore those. What is the software you want to install? What happens when you try to install them now?

Any app that uses graphics (chrome / video / vlc) opens a black window. The radio buttons do work, you just can't see them. I'll try uninstalling apps etc tomorrow.

When I use Videos app, it prints up "unable to create a GL context". It can't find any of the files that you give it.

OK, at startup: Under "Ubuntu" things do not work (Wayland); Under Ubuntu on Xorg (x11) all is OK; Unity is fine, but I don't like it! So I think I'm basically fixed - Thanks all. Life is a learning curve. Nothing ever stands still

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
