I have full permission on file but still unable to copy files onto USB due to permission denied

in flag

I am a newbie who is having trouble using Ubuntu 22.04.2 on my desktop PC. I am trying to copy my SSD manually to my USB drive (which actually has more space than my SSD). When I try to copy files, I get the "Error while copying "__________" but not all of the files. It says the file's path and ": Permission denied". I thought this was a permissions error but I used chmod -R 777 ~/directory's name which was successful and I also further verified with the file's properties that I have full permission. But still "Permission denied" on certain files. I saw unable-to-transfer-files-from-laptop-to-usb-due-to-permission-error but it didn't seem relevant because I am writing files to the same folder (ie, only certain files are not copying).
The specific files are mainly jpg, tif, and pdf files.
Please advise. Thanks.

@stumblebee Thanks for the edit. Hopefully I can get an answer soon as my disk is 97% full.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
