need to transfer file directory from user level local downloads to exernal hard drive

bj flag

New to Ubuntu. I'm trying to transfer a file folder to my usb hard drive. I recently added HDhomerun DVR to my TV and the drive is formatted XFS. I quickly filled the drive with recordings so I added another larger drive. Now I need to transfer the old folder files to the new larger HD. I copied the old hd folder to my downloads directory. I cannot copy or move it to my USB HD. It is a permission problem. I was able to make a new directory on the new USB HD using Sudo but still don't have permissions to create new files there. Once I copy the folder over from local downloads to the HD, I need to move things around to make sure they make it in the new sub folders.

Any assistance to this newbie is greatly appreciated.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
