Can I safely uninstall ROCM after running amdgpu-install?

uz flag

Yesterday I got my new GPU card (ASUS Phoenix RX550 4G evo) and was able to install Ubuntu 22.04 (old card no longer supported).

Everything was just fine and I was wondering whether the AMD drivers could add something. So I downloaded and installed the AMD GPU driver from AMD Drivers website.

Everything installed properly and is running fine. Slightly better performance but nothing revolutionary, so compliments to the Ubuntu community. However, I like to keep my system a bit clean but noticed I got an install of ROCM-llvm package. This download took ages (1.8GB) and once installed in the /opt-folder it occupies 4GB.

My question is: can I safely uninstall only this ROCM package? As far as I can find it is just a compiler for programming within the GPU and probably not mandatory to run normal apps and games?

Thanks for your advice!

Greetings Martin

As this is apparently a question without an easy answer, I decided to uninstall the AMD software and revert back to the one included in Ubuntu 22.04.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
