How to set Bluetooth mic as default audio input?

cn flag

My Bluetooth headset works well on Android, macOS, Windows, iOS, and iPadOS. However, on Ubuntu the builtin microphone always takes precedence.

Before each and every meeting, I have to set aside a few minutes to manually reselect the Bluetooth microphone as the audio input device. Especially if the device has timed out after the meeting due to inactivity. Surely there is a way to automate this manual process?

Even worse, many times the headset fails to register an audio input device at all. Then I have to disconnect and reconnect the Bluetooth earbuds over and over and over again.

Ubuntu LTS, System76 Lemur Pro, Anker Liberty Pro 3

I tried installing Pulse audio, but that has no effect on the behavior.

I sit in a Tesla and translated this thread with Ai:

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
