Ubuntu 22.10 Desktop requires sudo dhclient every reboot to connect to internet

Like the title says, every time I reboot my system, I need to open the terminal and type the following command to get the internet working:

sudo dhclient

I'm new to this so if there is information you need let me know. Here's what I know:

  • I have the ethernet plugged in.

  • It doesn't light up until I input the command above.

  • If I go into the network settings, it doesn't recognize the connection like in the image you see below:

There is nothing there.

Any help would be appreiciated!

Welcome to AskUbuntu! Is there anything in `/var/log/syslog` around the time of the system boot that might explain why `dhclient` is not starting up? The only thing that comes to mind is a permissions issue, but this generally isn't something that people need to think about unless they've done a bit of custom network configuration

I found a solution. It's strange but it works.

dhclient is the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) Client one would use to allow a client to connect to a DHCP server.

$ sudo nano /etc/rc.local

#!/bin/bash
dhclient
exit 0

$ sudo chmod 755 /etc/rc.local

$ sudo systemctl enable rc-local

$ sudo systemctl restart rc-local

$ sudo systemctl status rc-local
