cryptsetup: Device /dev/sda4 is not a valid LUKS device

cn flag

chatGPT could not solve this one :-)

I mistakenly erased my username from /etc/sudoers

I need to rescue the system, which has full disk encryption.

I rebooted on a bootable usb drive (Finnix) and tried:

mkdir sda4tmp
cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sda4 sda4tmp

and get ...

# Device /dev/sda4 is not a valid LUKS device

How to go forward? Is losetup the only solution? Had some troubles with it :-/

Thanks! PS: The target /dev/sda4 is a ubuntu 22.04 partition, fully encrypted.

I sit in a Tesla and translated this thread with Ai:

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
