22.04 KVM Guest (also 22.04) will not update "0% Waiting for headers" and then connection failure

hk flag

I have two Ubuntu 22.04 VMs with this problem, and a third new install gave the same problems. All of these machines will download from the internet without issues using wget.

Two existing guests under the same KVM engine WILL still update successfully.

A KVM image that will not update copied to different server KVM instance will now update correctly, move it back and the error persists.

The host and other VMs (2 x 22.04 guests) will update quite happily.

I have tried various solutions around DNS (not DNS this time for once, IP for archive.ubuntu.com correctly reported as 185.125.190.39), DHCP instead of static, alternate virtual network adapter. I also tried this solution without success on any of the troubled VM:

$ sudo apt-get clean $ cd /var/lib/apt $ sudo mv lists lists.old $ sudo mkdir -p lists/partial $ sudo apt-get clean $ sudo apt-get update

I am struggling to diagnose because it can't be the KVM instance or host (other VMs are fine) and it can't be the KVM image because that works on another KVM instance and host.

Please someone put me out of my misery?

Thanks

Greg

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
