attached you can find the terminal of my homebridge account. The only account which is actually able to logon:

homebridge@raspberrypi:/var/lib/homebridge
$ su pi su: Authentication failure
homebridge@raspberrypi:/var/lib/homebridge
§ su pi su: Authentication failure
homebridge@raspberrypi:/var/lib/homebridge
§ sudo su
sudo: account validation failure, is your account locked?
homebridge@raspberrypi:/var/lib/homebridge
$

Has anyone an idea how to resolve this? This happens after a reboot when I tried to update the system.

Are you using the Homebridge Pi image? Or did you install Homebridge on top of Ubuntu? If the latter, exactly which release of Ubuntu?

I think it was a Pi image on which I installed Homebridge. But I don‘t know the Pi Version or the Ubuntu one.

I could resolve the logon issue by doing the following:

Changed the cmdline.txt by appending:

init=/bin/bash

I loaded the / as rw by using the following commands:

mount -o remount,rw /
mount -o remount, rw /
mount -o remount,  —-rw /
mount -all

Afterwards I deleted passwords from the shadow file by removing the Password Hashes - just to make sure that i can logon without password

I also created a new user and released all users to make sure that no user is locked.

Then I run apt --fix-broken install -y -f & apt-get Update && apt-get install -y -f

Now I‘ve several issues but nothing anymore related to the User Login part.

Try sudo su - , then root password.

Or su - pi , then pi user`s password.

as root you can check user current ages: chage -l username

Hi @HBtools That’s what I tried already but without success: `homebridge@raspberrypi:/var/lib/homebridge$ sudo su - sudo: account validation failure, is your account locked? homebridge@raspberrypi:/var/lib/homebridge$ su - pi su: Authentication failure homebridge@raspberrypi:/var/lib/homebridge$`

HI HBTools, No either su - worked. PAM changes weren‘t made from my side could be that this happened during the update process but I don‘t think so.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
