Launching Steam, but get error "Could not load module vgui2_s.so"

ws flag

I am trying to launch Steam. I had a missing packages error and resolved that, but now I get the following error message every single time:

Steam error screen: Could not load module 'vgui2_s.so'

I could really use some help on this one, as an alternate post with the same issue had an answer that ended up not working for me.

That's part of the Steam install, not any Ubuntu package. Try installing Steam again, from the Ubuntu steam package.

I just did that, and it didn't do a thing.
I sit in a Tesla and translated this thread with Ai:

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
