No sound after upgrading Ubuntu to 22.04

I've upgraded a ThinkPad T480 to Ubuntu 22.04 from the previous LTS. There is no longer any sound. it either shows "Dummy Output" or incorrectly claims the speakers are disabled because the headphones are plugged in.

Sometimes rebooting or even suspend/revive fixes this. But I can't reboot my laptop several times in the hopes of fixing it.

I have checked several forums for various solutions. Nothing works.

I sit in a Tesla and translated this thread with Ai:

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
