grub rescue for error: file '/boot/grub/i386-pc/normal.mod' not found

enter image description hereI am using a desktop that cannot be shut down without opening the chassis and moving the memory sticks. So I never shut it down. Occasionally the electricity fails and I must start up the machine again. Today I went thru the maneuver, but instead of booting there was a flash message about chassis intrusion followed by the error message in the image I have provided. Elsewhere I found out about locating info for the rescue and that is in the provided image.

This is Linux 21 or 20.1. can't find exact as I can't boot to check.

I ran ls (hd0,msdos1) and received "Filesystem is ext2",which is what I was supposed to be looking for. Then performed the recommended steps: set boot, set prefix, insmod, and received the original message.gave up and shut down.

Today, I decided to go with ls(hd1,msdos1). What the heck. I again received "Filesystem is ext2". that is a bit confusing. Again I set boot, set prefix then insmod normal. And look what I got this time: error:symbol 'grub_file_filters' not found.

As you can see I did the hd0 sequence again and received same again.

Sorry, I am no techie and spent hours just finding, and deciding, on this route. What's next. BTW this is the first message of this sort I have received after an electric shut down.

Consider using boot-repair which likely will fix your broken grub https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Boot-Repair

Ubuntu 21.04 (along with all flavors) is *End-of-Life* and thus unsupported on this site (https://askubuntu.com/help/on-topic), and many other Ubuntu sites, unless your question is specific to moving to a supported release of Ubuntu. https://fridge.ubuntu.com/2022/01/21/ubuntu-21-04-hirsute-hippo-end-of-life-reached-on-january-20-2022/ https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EOLUpgrades Likewise 20.10 is EOL (see https://fridge.ubuntu.com/2021/07/25/ubuntu-20-10-groovy-gorilla-end-of-life-reached-on-july-22-2021/) *You mention 21 or 20.1 where releases from 2021 (21.x weren't LTS) & 20.10 & EOL*

Only Ubuntu and official flavors of Ubuntu (https://ubuntu.com/download/flavours) are on-topic here, refer to https://askubuntu.com/help/on-topic where you'll find other SE sites where you question will be welcome if you don't want to use a Linux Mint forum. (*One advantage of Ubuntu is it's many support options, you opted for Linux Mint so take advantage of it's support options, or SE Unix & Linux*)

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
