tf flag

Ubuntu Version: 18.04

$uname -a
Linux Survey 4.15.0-189-generic #200-Ubuntu
$apt-get -v
apt 1.6.17(amd64)
$php -v
PHP 7.2.24-0ubuntu0.18.04.17(cli)

I have tried to install the php 8.1 by using this method https://computingforgeeks.com/how-to-install-php-on-ubuntu-2/#google_vignette , although it does not worked from me. I want to update the php only without updating the system version. Please help me solve it, I would be blessed to run also any commands you think it will help.

Run your PHP application inside Docker or a VM - and also you have to update beyond 18.04 to get support here (for your question to be on-topic).

Ubuntu is already running on a VM, and is beeing used to host websites insite our organization. The reason I want it, is for running a plugin in wordpress that requires php 7.4 and above.

That PPA provides support for *standard* support LTS releases of Ubuntu, meaning that's 20.04 & 22.04 LTS only now, because 18.04 has past it's *end of standard support*..

[Ubuntu 18.04 LTS has reached the end of it's *standard* support life](https://fridge.ubuntu.com/2023/05/13/extended-security-maintenance-for-ubuntu-18-04-bionic-beaver-begins-31-may-2023/) thus is now off-topic here unless your question is specific to helping you move to a supported release of Ubuntu. Ubuntu 18.04 ESM support is available, but not on-topic here, see https://askubuntu.com/help/on-topic See also https://ubuntu.com//blog/18-04-end-of-standard-support

I cannot update the version of it even If i know that 18.04 is not supported anymore, since I am running a website that it cannot get offline.

Running unsupported version of Ubuntu is a security risk. Ubuntu 22.04 will be supported until 2027. If you upgrade, you can host your website continuously for a few more years. You can install 22.04 in another VM and set everything up. Afterwards, it will take just a few minutes to turn the 18.04 VM off and turn on hosting in the 22.04 VM.

Ubuntu 18.04 is not anymore supported (it was released in April 2018). This site is run by volunteers, and we cannot support old versions for indefinite amount of time. To receive support, you have to upgrade, otherwise, you will pose security risks, and you are on your own.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
