TCP window scaling "proxy" for connection to cloud environment
ru flag

We have a hybrid cloud/on-prem infrastructure connected by dark fiber at 10Gbps. Our on-prem stuff is pretty legacy so many of the devices use fixed TCP window sizes. Using the bandwidth delay product, at 36ms ping (typical for our fiber connection), you only get around 15 mbps (calculator here) which is exactly what we are seeing. On prem this is not an issue because ping is <1ms. So on-prem.. we ...

I have an authentication server based on certificate. The previous roll of certificate (1 CA + 1 Server + 1 Client) worked perfectly. A few days ago the client certificate expired and I had to generate a new one. I encountered the following problem so I generated once again all of the certificates (CA, Server and Client) but the problem still remain.

What could prevent hdd hot-swap in linux ahci?
pk flag

I'm tearing my hair out over this issue.

I wanted to add a hotswap bay to my homeserver to easily add and remove HDD such as to easily rotate off-site backups. The mainboard in question is an Asrock J4105-ITX motherboard with four native SATA ports, which are divided between an ASM1062 and an Intel processor SATA controller. Both work fine and use the ahci kernel module. There is a hot-swap option in th ...

Simple question - I have a server running MySQL and need to set up group replication. Can't afford downtime. How can one set up a mysql group replication on a running mysql server? (the other servers have all software installed, just the DB isn't there).

There is a way to set up mysql master-slave replication and that has been described here (How to setup MySQL replication with minimal downtime) but ha ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
