Samba allow SMB1 protocol for a single IP only
cz flag

I have an old network printer in my Linux network supporting SMB1 only. How can I limit the potential security issue to this IP only? Enabling the SMB1 protocol in the [global] section of smb.conf is working as expected but is not what I want. Is there any way to limit the SMB1 version to a single IP address within the smb.conf or is there any better mechanism to archive this?

How can I delete the root node of a LDAP tree?
cn flag

I would like to restore a LDAP tree with slapadd from a backup generated with slapcat. When I load the backup on a freshly installed OpenLDAP instance, slapadd complains about the root node already existing. I know about the slapadd -c option that continues on errors, but I would like to do things properly and not generate false negatives.

So before I call slapadd I would like to delete the root no ...

er flag

This screen shot is from Server 2012. I believe I have seen the same date in Server 2016. This date is not correct due to my patch management being handled outside of Windows Update. Is there a registry key or something I can use to update this date and the status from FAILED?

Properly Boot a Software-Based RAID1 with a Missing or Improperly Failed Drive
gf flag

tl;dr. Is there a way to properly boot a software-based RAID1 with a missing or failed drive (that wasn't failed by the user first)?

To be clear, booting a software-based RAID1 without a hard drive is possible IF you properly fail the drive before rebooting. I know this is subjective, but this doesn’t seem like a plausible solution nor an acceptable answer. For example; A facility takes a power hit ...

I have linux ec2 instances with two nics (eth0 and eth2). Both the nics have public ip's attached to it and are able to get out to the internet. This linux instance is acting as a gateway node for me, forwarding traffic from ec2 in private subnets who dont have internet access.

Excessive port scanning on tcp/19139
ng flag

Recently, I have noticed an excessive amount of scanning attempts on port tcp/19139 for several servers. It does not appear to be an IANA reserved port and I'm not familiar with any applications using this port. Many of the requests appear to originate from IPs in Israel but not exclusively.

Has someone got any information regarding this activity and/or port?

Postgresql 13 - Speed up pg_dump to 5 minutes instead of 70 minutes
cn flag

We use pg_dump nightly to make a snapshot of our database. We did for a long time with a simple command

pg_dump -Fc database_name

This takes about an hour and produces a file of 30+GByte.

How can we speed up things?

Cannot Apply Network Settings to MDT - Cannot hit deployment share

I can hit my deployment share from any computer on the network, but cannot hit it from the computer I'm trying to image. I added a step to the Task Sequence "Apply Network Settings," but it seems it is ignoring this and using DHCP somehow. I made sure to update the deployment share.

When I hit F8 to bring up a command prompt I try a "Net Use" command, but it says "System Error 67 has occurred.  ...

Windows Server can't ping outside network when switched to static IP

I can no longer ping outside our network when I switch our server to a static IP. The backstory:

The server runs Windows Server 2016 Essentials with dual Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit NICs. It was previously configured with one NIC on DHCP (192.168.1.228), one on a static IP (192.168.1.251). Is there anything similar to hashlimit for mac address?

The hashlimit module works basically like ‘limit’ but can be used with source IP, destination port, destination IP and source port, thanks to the –-hashlimit-mode option. Is there anything similar that allows to use the mac address as well (something like "–-hashlimit-mode srcmac, dstmac")?

Setting the MTU of a virtual Switch on a qNAP NAS (QTSHero OS)

For a project that I am currently working for, I bought a QNAP NAS (TVS-h1288X). In that project, I have multiple network cameras. On the NAS, I have a Windows 10 VM which is supposed to store all the video recorded by those cameras. The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
