AWS NIC configuration

I'm trying to setup a EC2 instance for a specific use case. In that i will need 2 ENI with publicly exposed IP address. (Both should be pingable)

I've done following steps so far:

  • Attached 2 Network Interface from a same subnet
  • Run instance
  • Created 2 Elastic IP address, attached with each ENI card of instance.

I can see following result on EC2 Instance Network interfaces section.

Why does Hyper-V save my running VM when I'm reverting to a checkpoint that was made when it was off?
cn flag

When I revert my running VM (by selecting a the checkpoint it was at before booting and choosing 'apply'), I see the VM is saved for a few seconds first.

Can anyone explain why it saves the VM state rather than just 'killing it off somehow'?

Thanks

OpenSSL identity information did not stick in certificate
ro flag

We were just required to update our SSL certificate after the first year's expiration date come up. We've done this several times before with no issues—Google the right flags to use with openssl, plug that into Comodo, upload the certs and we're good to go.

This time we ran into all sorts of problems; our (outdated) macOS Servers kept kicking back our certs as invalid. This could very well be a ...

Disk snapshot size created from a google compute engine exceeds used space
in flag

I have a Google Compute Instance (VM) that has a 2TB disk and around 80GB used space. I wanted to archive this VM so that I don't get billed for the whole 2TB, and also so that it is ready to be recreated quickly if needed. Disk Snapshots seemed to be the best option since it is mentioned that I only get billed for the disk space used in that case. But when I try this, the snapshot size I get is around  ...

nginx loads the default page despite my proxy_pass configuration

This should be a very straight forward nginx configuration I would think, but it will only show me the default nginx homepage. I've even deleted the default file from /etc/nginx/sites-* to avoid having it possibly interfere at all.

I have the following file in /etc/nginx/sites-available/my.domain:

How would I migrate an SVN/Trac/Tomcat server instance to Amazon Linux 2?

We have a development EC2 instance, originally spun up (if memory serves) from a free canned AMI with Trac and SVN running under Amazon Linux, to which we added Tomcat.

Some time ago, I tried to set up an Amazon Linux 2 version of this, in an attempt to get Let's Encrypt working through Certbot; this attempt failed miserably (fortunately, I was able to get Let's Encrypt working through Lego).

Best practices for updates
in flag

We have a lot of Linux servers (Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 7.9 running vmware) and most of the services are in containers docker. We want to implement a policy of updating our systems with minimal disruption of services.

What would be the best approach to update the system (patches, security patches and kernel) either to have no downtime or to have the shortest service downtime?
Thank you

Citrix Cloud - Changing Machine Catalog Associated with a Delivery Group
iq flag

Just a quick question with regards to Citrix Delivery Groups.

Is there a way to change the machine catalog assigned to a delivery group without having to create an entirely new delivery group?

The background to this, is that I need to change the SKU size associated with the machines that are spun up automatically in Azure and for that, I need to create a new delivery group.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
