SAS3 HBA / Backplane Issue

I have the Supermicro BPN-SAS3-743A backplane hooked up to a AOC-S3008L-L8i RAID card in IT mode using a regular mini SAS SFF-8643 to SFF-8643 cable bought from Amazon. When I'm in the HBA bios, the topology shows no drives even though there are 4 SSD drives connected. If I attach the drives directly using a breakout cable, the drives are detected but not when connected to the backplane. The backplane's ...

Are sony lto6 tapes mp or bf?
ca flag

Most lto tapes specify MP or BaFe on their labels. Sony ltx2500g tapes dont. I have two ibm lto6 decks and want to try to keep different tape brands and particle formulations on different machines just to make it easier to isolate tape/head problems in case there are any. So far I have not had problems with any tape, but fuji bafe tapes do seem to be much slower writing. They are the only BF tapes I hav ...

What is this private LAN address accessible through my ISP?

Recently some websites I regularly visit (most recently docker.com, atlasobscura.com; both of these sites return an issue with a fortinet-ca2 certificate) have started showing certificate issues on my computer. I have working configuration for SSL bumping on Squid 4.4 and RHEL8. I'm finding though, that a handful of sites that don't have SSL set up (e.g., http://squidguard.org) are not working.

I've had to cobble together my configuration using several different sources since none seem to offer a definitive approach to setting up SSL bumping. It's possible that I've missed something that would allow Squid ...

How can I force a locked workstation to log off after a timeout?

I would like to have workstations automatically log-off after a set period of inactivity. There are many solutions to lock a workstation after a timeout and a few hacks to log off a workstation when the user becomes inactive. However, when the workstation is locked but not disconnected, the query user command shows 'Active' for the user and those hacks do not work. (https://superuser.com/questions/2 ...

How medium-sized servers are connected to the internet?

I'm curious about how the servers are connected to the internet. Suppose I develop a web application that requires multiple machines to provide services. For example, I want to host the frontend on a machine, and for the backend I want a pool of machines, something like load balancing, and also a machine for my database. I want to start this project in my apartment. It will be a good idea to pay an inte ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
