RFC 3074 DHCP Load Balancing STID vs RFC 2131 DHCP xid
ma flag

Section 2.2 of RFC 3074 defines a Service Transaction ID (STID) as:

An attribute of the individual client requests used for load-balancing.

However, section 2 of RFC 2131 defines the xid field of a DHCP packet as:

Transaction ID, a random number chosen by the client, used by the client and server to associate messages and responses between a client and a server.

These seem to match up, until  ...

What would cause my IPv6 connectivity to keep dying, with a reboot fixing it each time?
ml flag

Centos 8 Stream

When I first boot my server up, ipv6 works fine. I can ping another ipv6 address without issue.

A few (10?) minutes later, it stops working. Rebooting the box fixes it, but I can't be rebooting a webserver every ten minutes.

Anyone come across this before and have any idea what the issue might be?

I didn't used to have this issue. What's changed is I've had a 10G card added to the serve ...

Is one of Anonymous or Windows Authentication really required for IIS when hosting an ASP.NET CORE application
mx flag

I have an ASP.NET CORE application hosted in IIS. The application uses OAUTH/OIDC for authenticating API requests. I have observed that if neither Anonymous nor Windows Authentication is activated then requests are rejected by IIS and do not make it through to the application (even though to the Authentication Header is set for Bearer). If I enable Anonymous Authentication then the requests pass thro ...

Apply terraform changes to selected resources only
cn flag

I have a Terraform module that creates a couple dozen servers on an ESXi host, based on a template image.

Now, when running terraform apply it always wants to replace all servers at once. Is there any way to selectively apply changes, similar to Ansible's -l flag?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
