Google Cloud Compute Engine: Ingress vs. Egress
co flag

I read the FAQS about Google Cloud. It says there that Google Cloud will never charge for ingress traffic unless you have a load balancer in it, then, it is not free. But Google Cloud offers a free 1GB egress traffic excluding China and Australia.

I am running a Pritunl VPN server in my m2.micro server on Google Cloud Oregon Region. It is free but I do not know if my server sends egress traffic. G ...

DRBD does not promote resource on slave node after "pcs cluster stop --all"
vn flag

I am trying to understand the recovering process of a promotable resource after "pcs cluster stop --all" and shutdown of both nodes. I have a two nodes + qdevice quorum with a DRBD resource.

This is a summary of the resources before my test. Everything is working just fine and server2 is the master of DRBD.

Remove RRSIG record from GoDaddy subdomain
ph flag

I added 4 NS entries for a subdomain for a SalesForce email campaign.

SalesForce has since complained they see an "RRSIG entry for the subdomain" and they "do not support (add to NS) RRSIG records", and as such I need to remove it.

I did not add the RRSIG entry - looks like it is automated? I do not see it in GoDaddy interface or in zone file. Can I remove it?

SalesForce directed me to a web tool (

Openldap mirror mode not working
jp flag

I have two openldap servers running v2.4.57 on Solaris. I'm trying to setup replication.

The first system, France, is setup and running. I then created Spain and ran ldapmodify on Spain using this ldif. I expected Spain to start replicating but nothing happens. I was expecting replication to just start. Any help is appreciated.

What is VMWare Cloud on AWS?

If AWS is powered by Amazon's own hypervisor layer then What is VMWare Cloud on AWS

As I basically understand VMWare provides virtualization products such as VMWare ESXi, NSX etc. They sit in between Hardware and Guest OS (User's OS). If I see AWS services, they are powered by Amazon's own virtualization layer. Basically, what I could get as an EC2 instance is nothing but a Virtual Machine runnin ...

Postfix not sending emails with no error messages

I have a customer attempting to use postfix to send emails with SMTP. It appears that postfix will parse the email attributes correctly, but before sending the email it begins processing it again. This happens in an endless loop. I've put postfix into debug mode and produced a log file that looks almost exactly the same as a log file produced with my own system up to the point where it repeats the parsi ...

rsyslog - how to tag and apply ruleset by line contents?

I am cleaning up and standardizing our log handling, adding fluentd and ELK. This part is working fine, since nginx is logging to its own file:

input(type="imfile" tag="app.nginx" file="/var/log/nginx/access.log" ruleset="fluentd")

However other components of the app, e.g. the python process, are logging to /var/log/syslog with log messages that are prefixed with [flask]. I would like to filter  ...

rsyslog is running, but nothing is output
de flag

nice to meet you.

Suddenly nothing is being output in /var/log/messages, cron, secure, etc... I have not restarted rsyslog or modified /etc/rsyslog.conf, so I do not know why. Even after rebooting, the output is still not output. There are also servers that are outputting normally.

If you look at /proc/*/fd, the one that outputs correctly is

Why does Test-NetConnection indicate connection can be made, but I cannot visit the site?

I need to determine whether a particular site is accessible on a particular port, given that firewall restrictions exist on the network.

If I cannot access the site on a particular port, then that means I would need to modify the firewall before proceeding. Otherwise, if I can reach the site, then I would be able to proceed with what I intend to do.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
