Windows security pop up never goes away
cn flag

I'm running into a head scratcher type of situation. I have a user who has reported that they are getting a Windows Security pop up from outlook that keeps showing up even after clicking Cancel or signing out/in to Outlook.

Luckily, the user didn't put in their credentials.

Below are some things I've checked from a security standpoint:

PowerDNS zone forwarding
sd flag

I have inherited a 4.0.6 powerdns deployment that is used to serve a private zone in a lab environment. I am in the process of migrating this environment to AWS and need powerdns to forward aws.internal.lan to a set of Route53 inbound resolvers. It seems that I should be able to do this by using "forward-zones-recurse" in the recursor, but I can't seem to get this to work with the current set up.

Drop-down menu for "Field name" does not show log_struct() logged jsonPayload in GCP LBM menu "Create logs metric" though logs in the Logs Explorer

I need LBMs on Google Cloud Platform of metric type "Distribution" to make time series charts with values like counts or duration for many labels in one go.

Example: for 10 different steps in the data workflow counts and duration of the day are logged in a dictionary and logged as jsonPayload using gcloud logging's log_struct().

SSH server timeout - one user (mine) is not timing out
cn flag

So I recently enabled a timeout on my Ubuntu 18.04.6 SSH server. It seems to be kicking everyone off once the idle timeout hits which is great. However it is not working for me. My connection will stay active no matter what. Not sure why? This causes an issue once my KRB5 ticket expires and floods my syslog with events. Just in case it's asked, this is how I enabled the timeout. I have this in my sshd_c ...

Amazon AWS RDS Burst Balance vs CPU Credit Balance

I'm trying to understand if I have spec'd my database appropriately. Below is a chart showing the WriteIOPS, CPUCreditBalance and BurstBalance for a t3.xlarge instance of SQL Server. It looks like I'm consuming my BurstBalance in another 15 hours or so, given a fairly constant WriteIOPS rate. However, the CPUCreditBalance is steadily increasing.

Best practice for gitops with helm

I want to follow “gitops” for deployment — the state given environment should be in is checked in version control in appropriate branch and then the CD server applies the configuration. With plain kubernetes manifests the deployment definition just selects the appropriate kubernetes connection and calls kubectl apply and everything else is in the files (or the name).

But with helm the values are o ...

Exchange 365 Spam Filter Policy Block Domain TLD

We migrated to cloud from on premise Exchange 2010. In Sonicwall ESA, I was able to block TLDs (Top Level Domains). In the Exchange Admin Center, I see I can set individual or additional "Rules", however, no option I can see to test TLD against a dictionary to block the domain. In the Microsoft 365 Security Center, under Policies > Anti-Spam > (new policy), it appears I can edit "Allowed and block ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
