Adding storage by adding additional drive

pk flag

So I installed a new SSD and I created an ext4 partition so I could have additional space for my Ubuntu which is installed on my other SSD. I mounted the partition and rebooted my Ubuntu (gparted marked the partition as mounted)

but my storage has not increased

Is there anyway I can increase the original storage using the new drive?

Thank you

Edit: Sorry if my description wasn't clear enough. I am constantly running into storage problems installing heavy packages like CUDA toolkit. Thanks to @Nmath, @oldfred,@PonJar, I guess my options are either mounting a partition on a new directory or copy my home or partition to the new one on the bigger storage. Thanks again for the help

Can you edit your question and include more details about the actual problem you are experiencing? Since the drive is mounted, are you unable to read and write data to the mounted volume? Since this is a completely different hard drive than your root file system, it will not increase the size of your root file system. Is that what you were expecting? To increase the size of your root file system you will need to increase the size of the partition that contains your Ubuntu installation. If you can't do that, consider reinstalling Ubuntu to the larger drive.

You can move /home to new drive. To move /home uses rsync- Be sure to use parameters to preserve ownership & permissions https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Partitioning/Home/Moving or create folders like /data/Music and link that back as your default Music folder in /home. https://askubuntu.com/questions/1013677/storing-data-on-second-hdd-mounting & https://askubuntu.com/questions/1058756/installing-all-applications-on-a-ssd-disk-and-putting-all-files-on-hdd-disk

If you want more space for applications the simplest thing to do is follow @Nmath’s advice. Alternatively you can copy and paste your existing partition(s) into unallocated space on the new ssd and boot that. If you want more space in your home directory you can follow @oldfred’s advice. Alternatively just create a new empty directory in your home directory and mount the new ext4 partition you created there. To make that permanent you will need to add an entry to the /etc/fstab file. Good luck

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
