Can ping, but no data exchange over internet

cn flag

I am on a Wifi hotspot that is controlled directly by my ISP. I have been using this connection for the past 4 years. From time to time, a problem like this happens:

  1. Internet is connected per se. I can ping URLs and IPs. But a command like this works only after a second try (i.e. only after a ctrl+C and repeat): ping 8.8.8.8 -s 56

  2. I can access certain websites without any problems (ex: cnn.com), but certain ones do not work (ex: bbc.com). They load forever and then Connection timed out.

  3. Other computers on the same network, but running Windows 10 just work flawlessly.

Given that both URLs and IPs behave the same way, I don't blame the DNS. But I heard of setting the MTU to a value like 1400 rather than leaving it to be set automatically, but this did not help.

Can someone please help?

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
