USB ports not working - not mounting

ph flag

my USB (ports) has stopped working. Unable to mount any usb related device and they do not appear in Disk - gparted either.

No sure why they are broken, but they are :/

I have tried reading up on the matter and it seem to be one of those whre it is easier to re-install ubuntu.

1.Seeing im not able to mount any external harddisk it will be pretty hard to back up data

  1. If you reinstall from usb-live, will u be able to keep your data ? (furthermore: if they are incrypted from first install)

  2. Would it be better to use Gparted, and make a volume where you files are stored, so they wont be affected by a re-install ?

3.a If so, how to you resize if the entire disk has been used and is encrypted (from the previous install)

I struggle understanding Gparted and really do not want to mess this up, so I value anyone who can provide a solution to my troubles FYI: im a autodidact linux learner, so its not all i understand like many of you guys in here

cheers

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
