You'll need to provide release details as we currently don't know what software stack you're using (eg. *legacy* Lubuntu used the LXDE desktop, *modern* Lubuntu uses LXQt so without release details we don't even know what desktop you mean when you mention Lubuntu; though that is used as example only - other differences will apply). FYI: My box has both `lubuntu-desktop`, `ubuntu-desktop` & more installed but I don't know what your issue is as it's currently unclear; what language/local/etc are you using locally? but release details are required

my locale is en-us, but I also liek to have the programmers dvorak, and left hand dvorak layouts installed, however currently using fctx on ubuntu-dekstop it doesn't change, I haven't checked to see if it still works in Lubuntu LXQt and how would I find the release detales?

Lubuntu comes with the `neofetch` package which if run from the terminal provides loads of details (it's commonly shown by reviewers). The standard way would be via `lsb_release -a` (-a shows everything; -r could be used to show release details only) `fcitx` comes with Lubuntu; the *stable* manual (21.04) can be read at https://manual.lubuntu.me/stable/3/3.1/3.1.1/fcitx.html (*stable* being the latest release; if using the LTS change the word *stable* to *lts* in the manual url to read that manual)

Hugh I just checked my lubuntu-desktops and it turns out the keyboard layouts work fine on there, I am very confused now.

Just a FYI: As it works in Lubuntu/LXQt, and your issue is when using GNOME, the Lubuntu tag is possibly working against you. Yes I looked & commented etc.. as I'm involved with Lubuntu; but its working there so you don't have a Lubuntu issue. I'm not a GNOME user, which is where your issue is (ie. Ubuntu desktop) but those desktop users may not open a Lubuntu tagged question. Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
