“Dummy Output” with intel driver, Ubuntu 21.04

I have the following onboard soundcard:

sudo lshw -C multimedia
  *-multimedia
       descripción: Audio device
producto: 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller
       fabricante: Intel Corporation
       id físico: 1b
       información del bus: pci@0000:00:1b.0
       versión: 05
       anchura: 64 bits
       reloj: 33MHz
capacidades: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list
       configuración: driver=snd_hda_intel latency=0
       recursos: irq:30 memoria:f7c00000-f7c03fff

I have no sound and "Dummy output" as only option in sound configuration. My current kernel is 5.11.0-22-generic on x86_64 (vanilla Ubuntu 21.04). I have tried every proposed solution in this thread: Ubuntu 20.04 - No sound

Nothing worked. The sound was working until an update a couple of months ago and did not work even installing 21.04 from scratch. I tried pipewire and the sound worked for a time, though I had to tell pavucontrol which was the correct output device with every boot. At one point this stopped working as well. Any help, advice, something new to try? I still cannot believe that an Intel soundcard doesn't work out of the box with Ubuntu.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
