Lost ability to open UBUNTU software store

in flag

While I seem to get almost daily system updates, I have lost the ability to manually open the UBUNTU software store, (using the embedded app). The app opens and I can use the search box, all software store options do nothing but show the "busy" circle for over 30 minutes. I thought I remembered seeing a "populating catalog" box when you first open it. That's gone and so are all the available packages in all category boxes. Trying to find, load, and run CLAMAV due to a threat received about an installed backdoor trojan. Is there an off platform scanner I can find and use?

does [this answer](https://askubuntu.com/a/1321087/307670) to a similar issue help?

Are you using a supported version of Ubuntu? 16.04 went End-Of-Life recently, and is no longer supported.

I loaded the same CD on a laptop also. I will see if it also has problems. I believe I am using 20.4 but will double check that also.

I am too ignorant to know about snap and gnome software stores. I tried loading clamav from the terminal, but I still have too much MS Dos on the brain.

I double checked. Using 20.04 on both machines. The laptop seems to get partial access to the store, (Editor's Choices). I am running the RISE VPN on both platforms if that makes a difference.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
