I'm running Ubuntu 20.04 on an early 2008 iMac Pro.
Until recently I've been using a Logitech Trackball as I always had issues with the Apple Trackpad connected via Bluetooth, however after one of the buttons died I dug the trackpad out again hoping to get it working before I splash out on another trackball.
At first I thought it was finally working. I checked the batteries (and for good measure put two brand new ones in anyway), turned the Bluetooth on and Ubuntu discovered the Apple Trackpad, connected to it with no issues and worked perfectly - until I powered the computer down for the afternoon.
When I turned back on this evening it had lost connection to the Trackpad, so I had to plug a mouse in to quickly navigate to the settings thinking the bluetooth had turned off. Instead it was displaying the Trackpad as disconnected.
It refuses to connect, and when you watch the settings you see it briefly flick connected and immediately disconnect again.
I tried deleting it and hving is detect again, however it is still doing the same, except instead of the Apple Trackpad, it now displays the text
System Administrator's Trackpad Not Set Up.
If I click on it, it asks displays
Confirm Bluetooth PIN
Please confirm the PIN that was entered on the "System Administrator's Trackpad".
IOt then randomly displays a six digit code which changes each connection attempt. I've tried just clicking Confirm, and changing it to 0000, 000000, 1234, 123456 but nothing makes a difference.
If I ignore it, the PIN number disapears to be replaced by another, then another, then another, and eventually after about 15 minutes it settles down and displays "Conected" and appears to work, most of the time, sometimes after about half an hour I lose patience trying to sort it out and grab the mouse.
I'd rather use the trackpad if I can as the mouse gives me shoulder pain quite quickly, so does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be going wrong, or how to fix it, I'd be very grateful.
(As a note, if I boot into El Capitan, which I need to do on extremely rare occasions, the Trackpad works perfectly.
