Can't use mic on Bluetooth headphones

tr flag

I am trying to use the mic on a pair of my wireless Beats Studio headphones and can't get it to work. It is my understanding that I need to change the headphones to the HSP/HFP audio profile in order for the mic to work — but when I try to switch to that in Blueman I get the error Failed to change profile to headset_head_unit.

I'm connecting to my Bluetooth phones with a Plugable USB adapter. From the research I've done I don't think I need to install any additional drivers for this adapter. I'm on Ubuntu 20.04.

Can someone advise as to how I can get my headphones to switch to HSP/HFP mode so that I can use my mic?

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
