Two-sided printing not available after upgrade to Ubuntu 20.04

in flag

I recently upgraded my work machine from 18.04 to 20.04 and am now having trouble printing double-sided on our network printers. This previously worked fine on 18.04.

I installed with

systemctl start cups
lpadmin -p PrintFollowMe -v lpd://address-of-printer/printername -E -U username

I can print single sides, but when I try to print via any other application the "Two-sided" option under "Page setup" is greyed out. Weirdly LibreOffice can print double-sided, which leads me to suspect that the problem isn't to do with the connection to the printer.

Following the answer to this question I have tried modifying print options via localhost:631. The printer model is a Canon C5235i, and the closest model in the list of available models was for a "Canon iR-ADVI C5235/5240". That allowed me turn on duplex printing under "set printer defaults". However, I was then not able to print anything at all.

Any suggestions for how to fox this? Thanks

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
