How can I give apps permission to write/read files on my HDD?

gh flag

I have Ubuntu 21.04 installed on an SDD and I also have an external HDD. I do not have any problems writing/reading files on the HDD, but when I try to do so with certain apps I get the following message: Could not read the contents of \directory. Error opening directory \directory: Permission denied.

This seems to happen with certain apps, like WPS or Whatsdesk, but other apps like LyX work just fine. I tried manually enabling the permissions of this specific apps to read/write mountable disks on the Ubuntu Store, but that didn't work either.

Is there a way to give permission to these apps to read/write the mountable HDD. The HDD is formatted Ext4.

The apps you mentioned are snaps and, like any other snaps, by default they only access the user area and, when enabled, they can also read/write in /media or /mnt but nowhere else.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
