Shutdown on opening laptop lid due to acpi detecting high temperature

ru flag

I have ASUS ROG GL503E running ubuntu dual booted with windows. On Ubuntu almost always on opening my laptop lid acpi detects temperature to be 100 C and shuts down the machine, even though physically the machine is not warm at all. This only happens on Ubuntu and not on Windows. That is why I suspect this to be a software issue than a hardware one. Could this be due to an acpi bug? I also upgraded my BIOS firmware but that didn't help.

If your cooling is functioning properly in your laptop this would not be an issue. Generally it's better to solve the cooling issue. You may need to open the laptop and reapply thermal paste. If you are running resource intensive processes, do not close the lid!

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
