Prohibition sign and non responsive keyboard

za flag

Photo of a laptop screen displaying a prohibitory symbol

This prohibitory sign is appearing often and when it appears, the keyboard is not working properly, i.e. no input from the keyboard is being taken by the system and the issue is happening very often. I tried using an external keyboard but that is also not working, so it is not a hardware issue I guess. I use a Lenovo Ideapad 320.

It is a hardware issue. Your internal keyboard is defective.

I connected a fully functional external keybord and the problem remains same. Even I disabled the internal keyboard totally and used only the external one and again it is same .

How did you disabled the internal? Any troubleshoot is irrelevant if not physically disconnected. The problem here is the internal keyboard sending a signal for something that isn't applicable in the context hence the forbidden icon. It can be a stuck key, a problem anywhere in the flat connector or, more likely, an intermittent issue caused by a swollen battery pressuring the keyboard above it. Connecting an external keyboard is irrelevant for troubleshooting unless it can be tested on its own, i.e., without the internal one.

If you press one of the function keys or [Super], does the symbol go away? If you play audio (even if it’s through the browser), does the symbol go away?

I did disconnect using "xinput float" command not physically. Thanks for the suggestion..let me try that and then let's see what happens.

There is no such fixed way to make the sign go away( using super key or any other specific key ). It just randomly comes and go away and again comes after 30 seconds ..even the the time interval of repeating is random.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
