Factorial scaling on laptop makes external display a bit blurry

I have ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 laptop with Ubuntu 20.04, it has 2K screen so I set scaling to 150%, but when I connect my external Dell display without scaling its content is blurry.

When I switch "Factorial scaling" off Dell shows good and crisp picture.

It feels like "Factorial scaling" option is switched on for both screens and changes the way how things get rendered.

Is it possible to have "Factorial scaling" option only for one display?

"2K" is extremely ambiguous and most people use it incorrectly. What is the actual screen resolution of each display? What flavor of Ubuntu are you using? Have you set the scaling for each display?

screen resolution of builtin screen is 2560x1440, screen resolution of external screen is 2560x1440

I use ubuntu gnome 20.04, As I see switch "factorial scaling" is switched on/off for both displays, you cannot use it only for one

I'm glad that I asked because [1440p](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1440p) is not [2K](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2K_resolution) even though lots of people get this wrong, including retailers and reviewers. Are both displays set to their native resolution? LED/LCD panels should always be set to native resolution or they will look blurry. If both screens have the same native resolution and the fractional scaling is the same for both, they should look the same except that a larger screen will be more blurry due to lower DPI. Can you post a pic or screenshot?

Thanks for clarifying about 2K! I made two screenshots "fractional scaling: on" and "fractional scaling: off". The "on" screenshot is 2 times bigger than with "off" and it looks crisp. Feels like the picture is rendered 2x bigger and then downscaled when presented on screen... Yes I use native resolutions on both screens.

If the screenshot is clear then it has something to do with how it's rendered on the screen. I know that scaling that isn't halves (50%) or doubles (200%, 400%) can look blurry because it means that pixels cannot be divided equally and so it requires antialiasing to smooth out the imperfect divisions which can look blurry. 1440p can also be a bit tricky with fractional scaling because it's somewhat of an "in-between" resolution where 1080p is the most common and 4K is exactly 200% of 1080p
