Lenovo Y50-70 laptop- subwoofer not working

va flag

I can't get my subwoofer to work on Ubuntu (20.04.3 LTS).

I just switched to Linux from Windows and I am a total newbie. A quick google search revealed that this is a common problem, but I did not found any solution.

https://github.com/dragosprju/y50-subwoofer-linux-enabler

I found this workaround script which is currently not working anymore but it refers to this bug in alsa:

https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=204833

Also this:

Lenovo Y50 Subwoofer does no work with Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS

Seems outdated

I found out that there is no backward engineered driver. Does someone know if there is a way to get the subwoofer working?

Please make an [edit](https://askubuntu.com/posts/1365032/edit) to your question and address the following: First, please share the results of your research. It sounds like you are telling us that you found out that the subwoofer requires a specific driver but the driver is not available on Ubuntu. Have you exhausted all sound options under system settings? What version and flavor of Ubuntu are you using?

I think [this answer](https://askubuntu.com/a/654458) is probably your best bet. I would not recommend the GitHub project because it seems that it could permanently damage the hardware. If the hardware is discontinued, unfortunately the likelihood of someone picking up that project decreases over time.

in `/etc/pulse/daemon.conf` there is no `;enable-lfe-remixing = no` but i added `enable-lfe-remixing = yes` on the end of the file and also added `load-module module-combine channels=3 channel_map=front-left,front-right,lfe ` in `/etc/pulse/default.pa ` but it's still not working

In addition to that, try to add the line `lfe-crossover-freq = 0` - you can also adjust this value- 40Hz - 120Hz is a typical crossover frequency. Personally I set the value to `lfe-crossover-freq = 80` using a dedicated subwoofer on a 5.1 system over HDMI

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
