This is not what happened. KDE has its own settings, which are different. The settings of your original Ubuntu desktop are preserved. You will see that, when you log back in to the original Ubuntu desktop, the original font settings, icons, themes, etc are preserved.

Each desktop environment has its own configuration settings. These are stored independently, in different formats and on different locations (within your home folder).

Aspects where there might be interference when installing different desktop environments using the standard *-desktop metapackages

  • The Plymouth logo: this is the very first graphical screen you see when logging in to the computer
  • The login manager
  • Applications that came with another desktop will be visible for all users and in all desktop environments. These are installed according to common conventions as agreed upon in the freedesktop.org group.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
