Black screen with blinking cursor when booting into Ubuntu

cn flag

I'm on a laptop with Windows 10 (Intel Core i7-6500U CPU @ 2.50GHz 2.59 GHz, 8 GB RAM), and booting into Ubuntu (20.04) worked fine previously (booting into Windows also still works but it is somewhat buggy since the Ubuntu installation). I looked at similar posts here but solutions (or at least, good guesses of the problem) are hard to come by. For instance, I cannot use any keyboard shortcuts such as cmd-alt-f4 while the cursor is blinking which some suggested doing. Any help will be highly appreciated.

What version of ubuntu are you running? Grub should have at safe graphics mode boot option have your tried that. If safe mode works, you proberly have to search for a better graphicscard driver. It sounds like a driver/hw issue, what kind of hardware are you using? Hope it points you in some direction.

Unfortunately, when booting into the Ubuntu partition, I get the black screen and blinking cursor right away. I.e., I don't have the option of selecting the safe graphics boot option, at least not to my knowledge

Are you using grub boot loader, if so ther should be a menu point there, it's called something like more options?

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
