ubuntu 20.04 Cannot connect to internet nor even ping google.com

jp flag

I recently installed ubuntu 20.04. Everything seems good, I runned apt-get update and set-up all apdates. The date and time are correct. However, I cannot open any https ot http web page, On Firefox I receive the following error message "software is preventing firefox from safely connecting to this site". I think it is related the institution firewall. But I can surf on the web using windows OS.

Any suggestions or ideas ! Thank you in advance..

If it works on Windows on the institution's network but not elsewhere, chances are there's other configurations missing here. You should talk to your institution's IT people to make sure that you get proper configurations for network settings (such as DNS, etc.) or some type of transparent proxy in play (Sophos XG Firewall does this). Check the Windows side of things to see if there's any custom Root Certificate Authorities at play in your Windows side, if there are you need to export them and import them in your browser to work with them proper.

Can you ping 8.8.8.8 directly? What errors do you get **the exact error message** from Firefox (screenshot it please) or when you try `ping google.com`?

Thank you @ThomasWard for your comments. I just figured out that this issue happens only with wired connection. I bring my laptop, and the wifi connection works well on ubuntu 20.04. I tried to ping 8.8.8.8, nothing happens all messages are lost.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
