Sound over Display port is distorted, over headphones is fine

gl flag

I've been struggling with this for 2 days now and I can't seem to make it work. Sound coming from DP is distorted (lower) while sound coming over headphones is fine.

I've been trying various things and came to a conclusion that the issue is with amdgpu driver for my graphics card.

I'm using an R9 270X which comes preloaded with radeon driver on ubuntu and its derivatives. Using the radeon driver, the sound is fine both played over DP or from headphones, but I can't use Vulkan with that driver. So I switched to amdgpu and installed Vulkan and everything ran fine up until I played a video on youtube. To make it work, I had to add certain params when booting to switch to amdgpu (more precisely, I added amdgpu.si_support=1 radeon.si_support=0).

I've compared pulseaudio configs and I don't think that the problem is with pulseaudio as the config files are the same, regardless of the selected driver.

If anyone can help I'll be grateful. If more info is needed, I'll provide it.

Thanks in advance

P.S. I've confirmed that this problem persists in both Manjaro and Pop!_Os.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
