Can I get the notification sound play on a different audio device?

in flag

My notebook has two audio devices: The "onboard audio" going to built-in speakers, and my head phones connected to the docking station. I can switch the default audio device just fine with pavucontrol (normally I have the headphones, but I switch it when I want to play something aloud for people in the room), and also assign individual application's streams to specific devices (e.g. Chromium (with Google Meet) always plays on the headphones).

System notifications (like from Google calendar) always seem to play a sound on the default device. Is there a way to play those on the speaker? (I want to get notified of things happening even when I don't have the headphones on, so I miss my meetings less often.)

In case this matters, I'm using xfce as my desktop environment.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
