Basic understanding of installing and starting programs - install programs from zip files and start installed programs

be flag

i am quite new to Ubuntu and i think i have a basic lack of understanding how to install programs when its not from source or the Ubuntu Software Store.

e.g. i am trying to "install" the chess GUI nibbler right now. I download the .zip and unzip it to a destination of my choosing. Then what? I don't know how to approach those files or what to type in terminal. There are .bin .so .pak .json -files

another example is this: i installed PokerStars.exe via WINE and after fixing several errors it is finally working (Yay!) but i always have to search it in the GNOME-Shell search field. What could i type into the terminal to just start it from there?

Thank you for your help and time and sorry for this beginner question, but i cannot find any hint about this.

Beginner answer: There have been *dozens* of ways to install software over the years, And new ways to install keep getting invented. Good software comes with understandable installation instructions. If it doesn't come with useful instructions, offer to help the author improve their instructions.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
