20.04 Wi-fi authentication

ru flag

I installed Ubuntu 20.04 on my dell precision m4600 and the setup was fine until I got to the wireless network setup. I chose my home internet and put the passcode and then hit enter, it showed me that the machine is trying to connect but then it gave me pop up "authentication required", so I then hit enter again because the password was already in there but the pop up happened again and again. I don´t know what causes that, it might be that my computer is so old (from 2009).

Any help is appreciated.

Please [edit] your question and add output of `lspci -knn | grep Net -A3` terminal command.

I don’t want to offend, but are you absolutely *certain* you’ve put the correct passcode in for your WiFi? I don’t think the computer will be too old - I’ve managed to install Ubuntu and connect to my router with a similar vintage machine.

Yes I’m sure that I put the correct passcode because otherwise it would notify me differently if I put it wrong

Does it work if you connect using `nmcli` or `nmtui`? Maybe there's some more Info in the logs that can help narrow down the issue?

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
