Crackling noise with Guitarix and Jack

gh flag

I'm connecting my guitar to my Asus TUF FX505G laptop using a Fender Mustang Micro amp and a USB C cable. The Micro is set to the Studio Preamp setting.

Jack and Guitarix get a signal from the Micro, but it's crackling and distorted and doesn't sound anything like a guitar tone. I've tried tweaking the Frames/Period, Periods/Buffer settings in QjackCtl, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

The output device is set to "hw:sofhdadsp,0" (I've tried others to no effect). The input is set to "hw:Micro", which makes sense, given what's plugged into the USB port.

I'm running Ubuntu 21.10, with KDE Plasma and Gnome (or whatever it's called these days) installed. Same problem, regardless of desktop environment.

Maybe the impedances don't match, if the preamp actually outputs a line level signal but Guitarix thinks it's a mic-level input. Might be worth checking.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
