Kernel Module Development on an Ubuntu VM

br flag

I am trying to get into kernel module development.
I set up an Ubuntu 20.04.3 64-bit VMWare machine, tried loading a small module, and found it it has to be signed.

I found out that it can be turned off via UEFI variables - but the VM runs with BIOS, not UEFI.
I cannot sign the modules either, because that requires UEFI too.

Is there any nice solution that I missed? I can always compile the kernel myself without the signature check, but that might be a lot of unnecessary work.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
