Ubuntu performance issues, slow and laggy

uz flag

laptop specs:

  • processor: 9th Generation Intel® Core™ i7-9750H Processor
  • graphics card: RTX 2060
  • 16GB of ram
  • Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS

I am running the proprietary and tested the driver from Nvidia. (the recommended driver)

I checked the system monitor and see nothing out of the ordinary (i think) but I can't open it when my laptop freezes ofc

and with laggy I mean sometimes I have to wait 3 minutes for something to open or load or it won't load at all. even with only my browser open. it's the opposite of smooth. not sure what to do. if anyone has an idea on how to fix this problem that would be nice :)

no idea if the problem is snap apps I tried to understand what it is but I have like an 80IQ so I'm not sure what a snap app is. but I think that's how I install all the programs that are not available in the ubuntu software app

Is your problem with snap apps? They are notoriously slow to start.

You said you are dualbooting from an usb, not sure what that means, Do you mean you are on the live usb (try ubuntu mode)

Give the output of `neofetch` (If not installed then install it ok ?)

Your dual-booting: Are you using a stock Ubuntu .iso image? Or did you roll something custom yourself? Did you create it with persistence? Or is this real Ubuntu *installed* to the USB (not Live)?

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
