20.04 no internet , DNS sys broken, troubleshooting/solution req:

pk flag

As in header

20.04.3 , LTS

had internet and all, after reboot no more internet ping test:

  • 127.0.0.1 is ok,
  • 127.0.0.52 is ok (local resolvd something)
  • gateway IP is ok (confirming the net towards router box from where the internet and DHCP goes to local network is OK)
  • wifi is connected - it does indeed connect to the router gateway as tested by ping
  • any domain from the internet. ping freeze waiting for the answer, no msg and I CTRL-C to stop waiting what does not work

samba is installed EDIT: i uninstalled samba - no difference

warp VPN from cloudflare can be enabled/disabled with success result. No changes, still no progress

EDIT:

ping 8.8.8.8 or 1.1.1.1 or 1.0.0.1 (DNS servers) causes ping error; "ping: sendmsg; Operation not permitted"

Any ideas how to troubleshoot (i.e. where to look, what to inspect to find the culprit?)

Thanks in advance

SOLUTION for similar Linux situations: -Observe if an obsolete wireguard VPN tunnel is messing up the whole no-interenet investigation. If it runs - Stop wireguard via sudo systemctl stop wg-quick@<your-profile>.service Observe internet starts working and go throw a party for a working internet at your workstation again :-)

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
