Steam game crashes on launch

in flag

I recently installed Ubuntu 20.04 onto my new computer and am in the process of setting it up. I installed Steam and downloaded one of my games so I could test my computer's performance, but when I try to open it from Steam it says "Preparing to launch Hollow Knight" which is the game, and then opens a larger window that closes instantly.

A Steam forum from 2018 said that the solution was to delete everything in the 'steam' folder and then relaunch the app, causing it to auto-update. I tried this, but it didn't work.

Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: A different game, Hyper Light Drifter, works. HLD is a pixel art game with no option to set resolution, so I think it might have something to do with that. EDIT: Have now tested it with Proton and Steam Play on Xubuntu, and it seems that I don't have the correct graphics card drivers installed.

So, the question is: Which graphics card do you have? Please [edit] the question and update it accordingly.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
