"Unable to get valid context for user", Ubuntu 21.10, SELinux

cn flag

Every time I try to login, I get the warning message, "Unable to get valid context for Pasteldenata".

I am still very new to Linux, and I think this problem has something to do with SELinux. I enabled it this morning thinking it was a step towards keeping my system more secure. Upon enabling, I began to receive that warning message. I have since removed SELinux.

Because of this issue with my user's context, I am not able to use any of my applications. At least I think this is the case; I am not sure.

Any help or suggestion would be appreciated. I am a total noob. Only made the transition to Linux from Windows recently. My previous Ubuntu version was 21.04. I only upgraded my Ubuntu OS to 21.10 yesterday.

As I was doing my research, I read somewhere that I should not have used SELinux in Ubuntu and that apparmor would be a better fit. If anyone can briefly educate me on that, that would be great.

Indeed you shouldn't have done what you did. I suggest reinstalling Ubuntu from scratch, previously doing your backups of course. This is Q&A website not really fit for a long discussion.

Possible duplicate: [snapd and SELinux](https://askubuntu.com/questions/1378178/snapd-and-selinux/1378186) (I believe the answer still applies in your case).

I reinstalled Ubuntu. All is good now. I will avoid making the same mistake.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
