Motherboard compatability and Ubuntu

iq flag

I have been having a problem with Ubuntu , in all it's formats, and my MSI motherboard. I'm using the MPG Z490 Gaming Plus, but whenever I install it does not, and will not, allow hard line internet connection. The products tried include, Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu and even Mint, which uses ubuntu as a base. It works fine with other platforms, such as Microcrap and Zorin, it's ONLY Ubuntu based os that seems to lack this. WiFi is OK, just the hard line connection. Any help would be gratefully received! Tnx.

What version of Ubuntu? Newer hardware might require HWE kernel for LTS releases like 20.04 or you might have to use the newest standard release (21.10)

You mention Zorin working; that is a Ubuntu based system (just as per Linux Mint) - so being specific about details may help. You've not excluded operator errors, as you specially mention the Ubuntu base works (Zorin) so software stack details help, did you verify the ISO, verify write to installation media? what issues existed? and how does it differ from the Ubuntu based system that you said did work? (if you read https://zorin.com/os/ it'll tell you "*Ubuntu and Linux foundation*" so you've proven Ubuntu works - examine the stack differences between that & what fails to run)

Have you updated UEFI to latest available from MSI? While not same brand, same fixes may apply since same model. Gigabyte Z490 with 20.04 needs kernel update to 5.6 for Ethernet to work. https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=intel-10500k-10900k&num=1

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
